Filmmaker Shehzad Hameed Ahmad wins gender equality Award

Acclaimed Pakistani filmmaker, Shehzad Hameed Ahmad was recently honoured by United Women Singapore for supporting the cause of gender equality through his films.

In an on-line event, Singapore-based Ahmad was granted the Gender Equality Impact Changemaker (Male Individual) award.

Over the last decade, Shehzad has done substantial work highlighting women causes and developing awareness for gender equality.

He works on a variety of different themes with his work being featured on many International media outlets.

Previously he has been recognised for The Pakistani Four 2012, where he crossed across America to film the journey of 4 Pakistani American women; Flight of the Falcons 2015, that profiled the inspiring journey of Pakistani schoolteacher and her two-room school in Aroop, Gujranwala that highlighted the issues of girls education in rural Pakistan; and Nepal’s Child Brides 2017, that highlights the work of Nepali activists in creating awareness about this crucial issue.

United Women Singapore’s GEIA intends to acknowledge organisations, males, females, and young people in Singapore who have supported campaigns to advance gender equality and also empowerment of women in the workplace and society in general.
